Maternal Mental Health Resources

Pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood bring major physical and emotional changes. Many mothers experience postpartum depression, anxiety, birth trauma, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), sleep deprivation, and difficulties adjusting to the emotional and physical demands of pregnancy and new parenthood.

While this can all feel overwhelming, it’s important to remember that you’re not alone. Recent statistics from the American Psychiatric Association show that many people face similar mental health challenges:

  • Each year, 500,000 pregnant women in the U.S. will experience a mental health condition either before or during pregnancy.
  • As many as 75% of pregnant individuals with mental health symptoms do not receive treatment.
  • Adverse childhood experiences can increase risk for prenatal depression symptoms, especially in low-income women.
  • 1 in 10 men experience postpartum depression.

If you or a loved one are navigating mental health struggles during or after pregnancy, support is available. We’ve gathered a list of resources and organizations that support maternal mental health, including care specifically for BIPOC women, mothers, and birthing people.

We’re here to support your family.

If you experienced trauma during childbirth or your child suffered a birth injury, our team can help connect you with resources and explain your legal options.
