Learn how Linda Tyszka, RN, C-EFM contributes to the ABC Law Centers birth injury legal team

With over two decades of experience in obstetrical patient care, Linda Tyszka brings a wealth of information and dedication to the ABC Law Centers team. Linda is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN), with a plethora of experience in labor and delivery, and certifications in electronic fetal monitoring and neonatal resuscitation. Her passion lies in being a vigilant advocate for each patient, which comes naturally with the one-on-one environment that labor and delivery allows.

Linda began her nursing career after obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wayne State University in 1997. She cared for both low and high-risk patients during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Linda also practiced as an operating room circulating nurse at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, providing meticulous care for pediatric patients. Over time, Linda found that her real passion lay in the Labor and Delivery unit. She would revisit those crucial responsibilities at Beaumont Hospital, where she has now worked for a total of 17 years. To this day, Linda remains dedicated to providing care for obstetrical patients on visiting shifts at Beaumont. For almost two decades, Linda has embraced the unique challenges that come along with being a labor and delivery nurse.

One of Linda’s favorite aspects of being a labor and delivery nurse is the one-on-one care that allows her to create close bonds with her patients and focus on their unique needs. Regardless of a patient’s risk level, Linda’s focus is always to ensure safe delivery. However, it’s not always a straightforward path. She debunks the misconception that working in the labor and delivery unit is an easy task: “A low-risk situation can turn high-risk very quickly.” She emphasizes the importance of being meticulous in the care she and other medical staff must provide, and always following policies, procedures, and standards of care.

It’s this belief that drew Linda to join the birth injury legal team at ABC Law Centers (Reiter & Walsh, P.C.). Utilizing her obstetrical background, Linda consults our attorneys on critical situations where an injury could have been avoided, constituting medical malpractice. “I can see the whole scenario play out,” she states in regards to reviewing medical records for each case. “It’s almost like I’m there.” She is particularly attuned to patterns of injury and investigating why certain trends occur. She notes that in birth injury cases, “there’s a breach in standards of care, and for whatever reason that may be, it’s unacceptable.”

She maintains that, as a medical professional, it’s important to always follow standards of care and instinct. If a situation does not feel right, she asserts, it is the responsibility of that professional to speak out and advocate for their patient, using their clinical skills and judgment. “People’s lives are in our hands. We need to be diligent about the care we provide so we have safe outcomes.”

When she is not serving patients or investigating cases, Linda can be found with her three children and their dog, Brady. In the winter, you can find her skiing on the slopes. She is also a reader, gardener, and loves to travel.
