New Seizure Detection Technologies Seek to Prevent Brain Damage

A groundbreaking study of a device that has the potential to instantly detect seizure activity in a newborn began this month. Instant detection of seizures, which often have no outward symptoms, can lead to prompt intervention and treatment of the seizure activity. This could prevent much of the brain damage – and even death – caused by seizures. Indeed, the device, called cot-side technology, may save a lot of lives.
