Learn how Janelle Daniel, RNC-OB, contributes to the ABC Law Centers birth injury legal team

Janelle Daniel brings over 20 years of nursing experience to the ABC Law Centers (Reiter & Walsh, P.C.) team. She has been a Registered Nurse (RN) since 2000 and has previously acted as a Charge Nurse Team Leader. In 2021, Janelle was certified as a Legal Nurse Consultant. She is also certified in Inpatient OB, Electronic Fetal Monitoring, and OB Quality and Safety.

Janelle graduated from Pensacola Christian College in 2000, had her first baby that summer, then started as a RN in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit. A couple years later, she transitioned to Labor & Delivery, where she has been ever since. She has worked at 3 different hospitals, but has spent the last 15 years at Beaumont Hospital in Michigan. Her work there continues while she acts as a consultant for ABC Law Centers (Reiter & Walsh) and studies for her MSN in Forensic Nursing.

Before becoming a nurse, Janelle admired several nurses in her life, including a high school mentor and her mother. “I had so much respect for her and the way she cared for people,” said Janelle. When she became a nursing assistant, she proudly worked in the same place as her mother. She appreciates having a job where she can help people.

Janelle’s favorite part of Labor & Delivery is being “there for the patients during the best part of their lives,” and getting to work one-on-one with patients. She feels privileged to be there for struggling parents and be the voice for unborn babies. She appreciates that more patients are coming into L&D more empowered, knowledgeable, and aware of what they want out of their experience. However, she reminds patients to be flexible when treatment needs to change. “The goal at the end of the day is ‘healthy mom, healthy baby,’” says Janelle. “Sometimes the road to get there is different than the one they originally planned on.”

Before joining the ABC Law Centers team, Janelle was involved in a medical malpractice case as a witness. It opened her eyes to the other side of things in L&D. She became more aware of how vigilant hospital staff need to be, and how their responsibility for people’s lives should not be taken for granted. “This mom expected to take a healthy baby home, and now he had all these issues for the rest of his life. It could’ve been prevented. These kids need someone to speak for them like Jesse does.”

When she’s not working, Janelle likes to exercise. She also enjoys reading crime novels, knitting, crocheting, and gardening with her husband. She has 4 children and 3 Boston Terriers.
